Consent & opt-in

People on QuiC decide which businesses can message them. The server enforces it on every send — there is no setting, plan or approval that skips it.

How a person opts in#

Only the person can opt in, and only in one of these ways:

Opt-in sources
SourceWhat the person didsource value
They message you firstSent a message in the chat with your businessuser_initiated
Allow messagesTapped Allow messages on your business profileprofile_allow
Your opt-in linkOpened your link or QR code, signed in, and pressed Allow messagesopt_in_link
Test inviteAccepted your sandbox tester invite (sandbox only)sandbox_tester

Opening a link is not consent. Opt-in links (quic.chat/b/your-handle?optin=…) only show your profile; nothing changes until the person presses Allow messages. A link's ref comes back in consent.updated so you can attribute campaigns.

Stopping and blocking#

  • Stop messages (chat menu, or Settings › Privacy › Businesses) → opted_out.
  • Block (optionally with a report to QuiC) → blocked. They can't write to you either until they unblock, and unblocking doesn't opt them back in.
  • Either way you get consent.updated, and sends fail straight away. Don't ask them again through other channels to reverse it.
  • If a person deletes their QuiC account their consent is deleted and you get consent.updated with status: blocked and reason: account_deleted.

Who you can reach#

Consent is necessary but not enough — your access level also limits who you can reach:

  • Sandbox: only accepted testers (up to 10).
  • Internal live: opted-in people in your own organization.
  • Public live: opted-in people in any organization that allows businesses. An organization's admins can turn outside businesses off for all their members.

Never#

  • Buy, rent, import or guess contacts, or message people who haven't opted in to you on QuiC.
  • Make opting in a condition of something unrelated, or hide what people are agreeing to.
  • Keep messaging after a stop or block, or re-add people who left.
  • Send spam, scams, or content that is harmful or illegal.

QuiC watches block, stop and report rates. Apps with high rates are throttled, then suspended. Your organization's admins and QuiC can suspend an app at any time.

Volume limits#

Outside the 24 hours after a person's last message, you can start at most 3 messages to them per 24 hours. See rate limits.
